Hungry For Loot
This game was created for Godot Wild Jam #83, Consume.
New people have been moving into the slime forest, cutting down trees and killing all the animals. While your hungry slimes were out looking for food, they were attacked by these invaders. After defeating their attackers, the slimes look to see if their foes had any food, and find that they like the taste of loot!
As you travel random enemies will spawn. Your main attack is spit. Alone it is fairly weak, but after eating loot it is powered up by the stats of the item you ate! Each turn your slimes can use their base spit attack, defend to reduce damage by 1/3rd, or eat an item from their belt to perform a powered up spit attack. Every time you eat an item from your belt it will be replaced by a random one from the magic bag of loot, assuming you have any loot left. Each slime starts with their own bag customized for them. All new loot from battles goes into a shared bag. Once their personal bag is empty, each slime will pull from the shared bag. There was a planned feature to spend a turn to trade with the bag, and to trade between battles, but that did not make it in.
Items with a red background attack the enemy. Blue background is for healing or defense. Potions are single target, while scrolls are group attacks. You can eat weapons and armor to perform single target attacks.
There is a short intro story, which you can disable in the settings. That is all the story that made it into the game.
The game was designed to be played completely with mouse or touch, but can also be played with keyboard and controller. See the Controls tab under Settings to customize them.
We ran out of time to implement the story mode, so this is currently endless. As you progress you will stop by inns to recover and level up. As you level up, so do your enemies. How far can you go? How much loot can you collect? Push out the invaders destroying your forest, and have lots of tasty loot along the way!
We had a lot of fun making this game, and play testing it. We will be continuing development after the jam. We have a lot of features that we did not have time to implement. Below are some of the things we intend to add.
- Story mode. We's like to have the option to play through a story mode as well as keeping endless.
- Towns. Instead of just auto resting and leveling up at the inn, we had planned to have towns. You could sell your less useful loot and purchase other items. There would be several ways to spend your money. Some loot would be more valuable for selling than eating in combat.
- Bag trading. You will be able to trade freely with your bag and belt between combat, and in combat have a limited mode that uses your turn.
