Let'Em Run Free
This was originally created for the Godot Wild Jam #80, Controlled Chaos. It is still a work in progress. We have released a post-jam update based on the jam feedback. Please enjoy the demo of what we have so far. There is much more to come!
All the animal enclosures have vanished and the animals are running amok! You have been called upon to fence them in. Are you up to the task?
Default controls can be found using the Help button in game, or in the second screenshot. You can remap the controls in the Settings. The tutorial will teach you the basic controls and gameplay.
Basic concepts:
- Jump only works when facing a fence, but is very useful.
- Place food to lure animals to where you want them.
- Animals have preferences for which foods they like.
- Animals are happier when they have food, and with more space.
- Running and jumping can spook animals and make them move faster.
- Fencing in the animals will calm them down.
- The animals react to your actions. Do you take it slow and easy and help calm them down, or do you go fast and have more chaotic animals to deal with?
Planned improvements:
- There will be multiple types of fencing. Different animals will require different fencing. Some options will work for many animals. Choosing the wrong fencing may have unexpected consequences...
- Farms will have crops. Part of your job will be to keep the animals from destroying the crops while you work. Too much damage to the crops may result in lost pay.
- Obstacles such as trees and water will be added, and may get in the way, or be needed.
- Additional animals are planned.
- Not all animals get along. Fencing in some animals together will have negative consequences.
- Some farmers are particular about how they like things, and will have additional requests. Fulfill their requests to earn a bonus.
- Animals need enough space. Fence them into too small an area, and the will be unhappy. Some may break free. Some farmers may dock your pay for unhappy animals. There may even be other consequences.
- There is currently only 1, fairly easy, difficulty. We plan to add additional difficulty options.
- The game was created for the theme of Controlled Chaos. The choice of music was inspired by this theme. We plan to add at least 1 more style of music, likely something closer to what would be expected from the visuals.
- Levels will have maps of different sizes.
- A final "boss" level will be added, where you learn what has been happening to the fences...
Long-term ideas/potential features:
- Overworld map to interact with NPCs and learn tips or get special items.
